Lisa has been attending homebirths since 1958. Her three sons were born at home. She has lived in the western North
Carolina mountains since the early 1970s and in 1983 became North Carolina's only legal non-nurse midwife. In the 1990s,
she became an RN and then completed the CNEP program for nurse-midwifery, becoming a CNM in 1998. She currently
works at Bakersville Community Medical Clinic, as well as her own office, The Fern Kingham Memorial Women's Health
Center and Birth Apartment. She attends births at home, the birth apartment and Spruce Pine Community Hospital as well
as providing well woman health care which includes yearly pelvic exams and pap tests. Lisa has also incorporated her
knowledge of herbal and homeopathic remedies into her midwifery practice.
If you are interested in having me come to your group to speak, write to me and ask for CV and contract information for
lectures. I generally make only one of these commitments per month (due to baby schedule) from March to November, and
usually sign contracts a year in advance, so my birth families can know what my schedule is.
This website contains information about Lisa's midwifery services and the natural products she prepares and sells.
